National FFA Week.  The Groton FFA Chapter will have dress up days for the student body.  Students are also allowed to wear a hat/cap next week as long as they pay $1 per day before school in the library.  They will need to put a sticker on their hat to be allowed to wear it.  Each day will be a different sticker and teachers will have a picture of the sticker to look for that day.

If a student would like to dress up for a dress up day their outfit must be appropriate and follow the school dress code policy.

Friday – Jersey Day

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the April 13 test is due online by March 8.  Register atwww.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen or Groton but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates include: June, July, September, October, December, and February.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.

Grade 12:  Financial Aid Information– Reminder to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form (www.fafsa.gov).  You will need your computer, the FSA ID, and your 2017 tax information to start the process.  File as soon as possible!  The priority deadline for many schools is March 1.  All students received financial aid packets during English 12.

Girls’ basketball game at Milbank will be a varsity game only at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 18.

Thursday’s boys’ basketball game at Langford is Sharing the LOVE with the Tunheim’s Night.  Please wear red to the basketball game at Langford on February 14 to show your support for the Tunheim family during this difficult time.  Special events are planned including ice cream floats, a half-time dance and a free will offering for the family.

Nathan Tunheim’s classmates are putting on a chili and caramel roll supper at the Langford game tonight.  Proceeds will be donated to the Tunheim family.

Congratulations to the MathCounts team of Ethan Clark, Jack Dinger, Jacob Lewandowski, and Ellie Weismantel for earning the fifth place trophy at the Northeastern South Dakota Chapter MathCounts Competition at NSU last Wednesday!  Well done, mathletes!

Student Bulletin

No CCD at SEAS Catholic Church today.

 

Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday, February 7 from 1:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  School will dismiss at 1:15 p.m.  Bonus points will be awarded to students whose parents visit with each of their teachers at conferences.  If you have an A or A- in a class your parents do not need to see those teachers.   Grades posted on Wednesday will be used to determine the A or A-.

 

There will be a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meeting on Sunday at 7pm.  We will meet in the Arena Lobby.  This is open to anyone who would like to attend in grades 6-12.  We will play some games, have a few snacks, and have some fellowship time.  For more information talk to Mr. Franken.

FBLA meeting Thursday, February 7th at 8:00 A.M. in Mrs. Compton’s room.  Breakfast will be served!

Grades 11-12:   Reminder of things to do for the ACT Test on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 in Aberdeen.   Bring your admission ticket and a driver’s license (photo ID), 2 calculators, pencils with erasers, a watch, and possibly a water bottle.  Be sure and show up at the testing location at least 15 minutes early (7:45).  It might be a good idea to review last minute formulas and rules. No caps are to be worn during testing.  No beverage will be allowed in the testing area.  No cell phones are to be used at any time during test (including the break). Testing should conclude around noon.  Those who are taking the writing assessment should be done by 12:45 p.m.  Be sure and do the practice test prior to the test.  Stop by the School Counseling Office if you need an extra copy.

 

Grades 6-12:  This week is National School Counseling Week!  Today is the Last day to guessfor the Candy Line which outside Mrs. Sternhagen’s office.  Guess the number of candy items and win the jar at the end of Wednesday!   One guess per student!  Also, see any of your School Counselors – Mrs. Schwan, Miss Seeklander and Mrs. Sternhagen –  for a Hug this week (the Hershey’s kind!).

 

Grades 10-11:  All sophomores and juniors and their parents are invited to a special presentation on The Future – Start Now!  Topics will include Getting Involved, Working on Academics, Getting Ready for Testing, Visiting Colleges and Shadowing, Applying to College, Paying for College, and Applying for Scholarships.  The presentation will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 during parent-teacher conferences from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Groton Area High School computer lab. See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.
