Student Bulletin

 

The All-School Food Drive sponsored by FCCLA will be on Wednesday, Nov. 7.  Meet in the arena lobby at 6:00.  Pizza and pop will be served after collecting and bagging the food!  Join us to help those in need right in our community!

 

Student Council: Please plan to meet during lunch this week on Thursday, November 1st in the Office Conference Room.  Please stop and see Mrs. Sombke if you will be unable to attend.

Football Athletic Banquet will be Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Golf course.

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the Dec. 8 test is due online by Nov. 2.  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Other test dates are: Feb., April, June, and July.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.

 

Grade 12 NCRC  Testing – The NCRC is the National Career Readiness Certificate Test issued by ACT (nationalcareerreadiness.org).  Test will be given on Wednesday, November 7th from 9:45 – 1:36.  Please do the practice test. 

Grade 12 Financial Aid Information Night – The Financial Aid Information Night Meeting to learn about the FAFSA will be Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5:30 pm in the computer lab.

Grades 11-12:  Groton will not be a test site in October 2018 – Please check your email for your new testing location and be sure to print a new admission ticket.    Here are some reminders for the ACT Test on Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Aberdeen.   Bring your admission ticket and a driver’s license (photo ID), 2 calculators, pencils with erasers, a watch, and possibly a water bottle.  Be sure and show up at the testing location at least 15 minutes early (7:45).  It might be a good idea to review last minute formulas and rules.  No caps are to be worn during testing.  No beverage will be allowed in the testing area.  No cell phones are to be used at any time during test (including the break). Testing should conclude around noon.  Those who are taking the writing assessment should be done by 12:45 p.m.  Be sure and do the practice test prior to the test.  Stop by the School Counseling Office if you need an extra copy.

Snow Queen Talent Competition forms are in the office. Forms need to be turned in to Mr. Swanson by Monday, October 29. Those performing will set up a run-through time with Mr. Swanson. Preliminary cuts may be made if there is a large number of performers.

Grades 11-12:  Groton will not be a test site in October 2018 – Please check your email for your new testing location and be sure to print a new admission ticket.    Here are some reminders for the ACT Test on Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Aberdeen.   Bring your admission ticket and a driver’s license (photo ID), 2 calculators, pencils with erasers, a watch, and possibly a water bottle.  Be sure and show up at the testing location at least 15 minutes early (7:45).  It might be a good idea to review last minute formulas and rules.  No caps are to be worn during testing.  No beverage will be allowed in the testing area.  No cell phones are to be used at any time during test (including the break). Testing should conclude around noon.  Those who are taking the writing assessment should be done by 12:45 p.m.  Be sure and do the practice test prior to the test.  Stop by the School Counseling Office if you need an extra copy.

 

Students Ages 14-21: If you were interested in participating the Aberdeen Police Department Explorer Program, the Aberdeen Police Department is asking that you contact them by sending them your name and email address.    Please send the email to:  338.apd@aberdeen.sd.us.  If you want to do the program you will also need to fill out the information the officers handed out on Wednesday.  Please check your email for information about the program.

Grade 10:  Applications can be turned in for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program.  The program was discussed in English 10 and a handout was given to all students.  The Groton Kiwanis will sponsor 1 Groton sophomore again this year.  Please see Mrs. Sternhagen, KaSandra Pappas, or AnneMarie Smith if you have questions.  Essays are due to Mrs. Sternhagen by Thursday, October 25.  

 

Grade 12 & Teachers:  Groton High School will be promoting  SD Free College and Tech Application Week from October 29 – November 2, 2018.!  Here is the list of the week’s activities:

Monday – Application Day!  Seniors will apply during English 12 – they can apply to 3 SD schools for free

Tuesday – College and Tech Apparel Day – Students and Staff wear something from the school you went to or will be going

Wednesday – You Bet I Went to College/Tech.  Check out where your teachers went to school on their doors!

Thursday – College or Tech Door Decorating – Winner gets candy for the teacher’s classes all day!

Grades 9-12:  Nurse For A Day at Presentation College on either November 2 from 10 – 2 or February 15.    Observe and take part in Avera Simulation Center demonstrations, practice injections and taking vitals, visit with a panel of Presentation College faculty and students, and more.
