Student Bulletin

 

MathCounts practice at 7:45 on Wednesday in Ms. Berner’s classroom.

 

The JH football game from 9/20 has been rescheduled to 10/4.  One game beginning at 4pm @ Healy Field in Aberdeen.

Sophomores will be selling water, pop, and candy during float building on Friday.  They will be located at the office parking lot on the east side of the school.

FCCLA will be selling temporary tattoos and eye blacks for Homecoming!  They can be purchased in the FACS room for $2.00 a piece or for a set.

Class Dues:

Class Dues will need to be paid to Mrs. Morehouse by next Thursday, September 27th.  Anyone who does not pay their class dues by the end of the day on Thursday will be in the office on Friday during float building time.  Please see Mrs. Sombke if you have questions.

After the Homecoming parade on Friday, there will be a “Beat Up Cancer” fundraiser taking place near the football field.  There will be an old van to be demolished, with proceeds going to the Diegel family.

One hit is $1 and 3 hits is $2.  This fundraiser is sponsored by the Class of 2019.

Grades 9-12:  There will be a presentation on the Aberdeen Fire Department’s    Explorer Program for students interested in programs such as in EMS and firefighting.  This program will allow you to participate in daily activities including rope rescue, going in burn trailer, and being part of the Aircraft Rescue Training.  Volunteers would work two days a month (2 hours each time).    Students who complete the program would have the ability to gain full school tuition payment for programs such as EMT, firefighting, and medic courses after graduation from high school.  Learn about the program on Monday, September 24  (today) from 10:30 -11:00 in the Conference Room.

 

Grade 11:  Please bring your completed Post High Planning Day registration sheet to Mrs. Sternhagen.  If you were gone during English, please see Mrs. Sternhagen.

Grades 9-12 Scrubs Camp – Held on October 9, 2018 at Presentation College.  Learn about health care careers possibly including psychologist, EMT/fire rescue, medical assisting, chiropractor, pharmacy, physical therapy and wound care.  Huron also has a camp in October.   Fills as students register so register early!  Oct. 1 deadline.  http://scrubscamps.sd.gov/camp-locator/.  Application requires a signature from the student, teacher or counselor and a parent.

Grade 12 – Free SD College Application Week:  October 29 –  November 2nd, 2018:  3 free applications to SD post-secondary institutions!  https://selectdakota.org/parentscounselors/collegeapplicationweek/

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the October 27 test is due online by Sept. 28 (FRIDAY).  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen or Groton but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: December, February, April, June and July.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.

REMINDERS for students:

  • NO initiation, hazing, or bullying activities
  • Proper Conduct as school representatives:  All student’s who are given the honor of being allowed to be a visitor at the Groton Elementary School during lunch times and at the St. Johns Preschool during Homecoming week are asked to remember to conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen.  As representatives of our senior class royalty and our varsity sports teams, it is expected that all rules regarding driving, cell phones, attendance, and eligibility are upheld at all times while traveling to and being in attendance at both the elementary school and the preschool.  Please see Mrs. Sombke with questions.
