Grade 12:  Wendys Heisman:  Scholarship opportunity and recognition for scholar/athletes.  School, state, region, and national winners are selected.   Fill out the application online.  It must be verified by a school official – put me or a teacher (coach who is teacher), or administrator as the Reviewer (Jodi.Sternhagen@k12.sd.us).  The reviewer must write a recommendation so choose someone who knows you well.  No relatives may be recommenders.   Please make sure your GPA (unweighted), class rank and ACT scores are accurate.   Unweighted GPA’s are found on your transcript.  The deadline is October 17, 2018 at 3 pm.  In order to insure that the verification process goes smoothly, please complete the application by Friday, October 12, 2018 as the site is too busy later in the week.    www.wendysheisman.com.

Grade 12 Questbridge National College Match:  www.questbridge.org  High achieving seniors (ACT >28), income qualifying (typically $65,000 per family of 4 with limited assets).  Links students to Ivy League schools and prestigious schools.  Due Sept. 27, 2018.

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the October 27 test is due online by Sept. 28.  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen or Grotonbut be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: December, February, April, June and July.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.

Grades 9-12:  There will be a presentation on the Aberdeen Fire Department’s    Explorer Program for students interested in programs such as in EMS and firefighting.  This program will allow you to participate in daily activities including rope rescue, going in burn trailer, and being part of the Aircraft Rescue Training.  Volunteers would work two days a month (2 hours each time).    Students who complete the program would have the ability to gain full school tuition payment for programs such as EMT, firefighting, and medic courses after graduation from high school.  Learn about the program on Monday, September 24  (today) from 10:30 -11:00 in the Conference Room.

After the Homecoming parade next Friday, there will be a “Beat Up Cancer” fundraiser taking place near the football field.  There will be an old van to be demolished, with proceeds going to the Diegel family.

One hit is $1 and 3 hits is $2.  This fundraiser is sponsored by the Class of 2019.

Grades 9-12:  There will be a presentation on the Aberdeen Fire Department’s    Explorer Program for students interested in programs such as in EMS and firefighting.  This program will allow you to participate in daily activities including rope rescue, going in burn trailer, and being part of the Aircraft Rescue Training.  Volunteers would work two days a month (2 hours each time).    Students who complete the program would have the ability to gain full school tuition payment for programs such as EMT, firefighting, and medic courses after graduation from high school.  Learn about the program on Monday, September 24 from 10:30 -11:00 in the Conference Room.

Grade 12:  Wendys Heisman:  Scholarship opportunity and recognition for scholar/athletes.  School, state, region, and national winners are selected.   Fill out the application online.  It must be verified by a school official – put me or a teacher (coach who is teacher), or administrator as the Reviewer (Jodi.Sternhagen@k12.sd.us).  The reviewer must write a recommendation so choose someone who knows you well.  No relatives may be recommenders.   Please make sure your GPA (unweighted), class rank and ACT scores are accurate.   Unweighted GPA’s are found on your transcript.  The deadline is October 17, 2018 at 3 pm.  In order to insure that the verification process goes smoothly, please complete the application by Friday, October 12, 2018 as the site is too busy later in the week.    www.wendysheisman.com.

Grades 11-12:  US Senate Youth Competition and Scholarship competition:  Opportunity to win a free trip to Washington, DC for two SD students.  GHS will select two students to take the test and send the results to the state.   Only students who hold an elected or appointed office in student government, civic or educational organizations can apply.  Test covers government and history.  Stop by my office if you are interested.  Deadline Monday, 9/17/18 – today!

 

Grade 12 Questbridge National College Match:  www.questbridge.org  High achieving seniors (ACT >28), income qualifying (typically $65,000 per family of 4 with limited assets).  Links students to Ivy League schools and prestigious schools.  Due Sept. 27, 2018.

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the October 27 test is due online by Sept. 28.  Register atwww.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen or Grotonbut be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: December, February, April, June and July.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.
